What "free" web proxies actually cost

Your traffic is the product. Every page you open passes through someone's server, unencrypted for them — logins, cookies, everything.
Injected ads and scripts. The business model is modifying pages before you see them; some operators inject miners and clickjacking.
No sessions. Video, logins and anything with a cart breaks the moment the proxy rotates or drops you.

Web proxies are fine for opening one blocked article once. For anything involving accounts, payments or repeated use, a real proxy with your own credentials is safer — and it starts at a couple of dollars, not hundreds.
